All parents want their children to do well and succeed at school. However, many simply don't know where to start. Everything seems to have changed since your own schooldays and you don't want to confuse your children by using different methods to their teacher. Family Learning can help.
At TGGS we offer a Family Learning programme that involves parents/carers working alongside their daughter on numeracy and literacy skills. We do this by giving parents/carers the tools needed to help their daughter with both their classwork and homework in a relaxed school setting.
This academic year (2016/17), we have had four parents pass their Functional Skills in mathematics Level 1; with all of them joining another 4 parents for next year to sit their Level 2 exams. Plus, another five Year 6 parents have expressed an interest in joining our programme for the year 2017/18. In addition, parents/carers have the opportunity to continue their own studies at Bournville college and attend courses that may help them with further qualifications and training. Finally, parents and carers have expressed how much they have enjoyed the programme and how they and their daughter have benefitted from working together, improving their numeracy and literacy skills.
