On Friday 13th November 2015, 34 pupils from years 7-10, alongside Miss Adey, Mrs Simcox and Mrs Reeves took part in a flash mob in aid of Children in Need at the newly revamped New Street Station, Birmingham. A flash mob is a group of people who perform in a public space without the public knowing it is going to happen, to surprise and amuse everyone.
The event was organised by BBC Radio WM as part of their Generation Strictly Project and only three other schools took part. Pupils took part in a dance workshop before half term to learn “The Strictly” dance routine, which was a partnered dance and had been choreographed by dancers from Strictly Come Dancing. At the workshop Richie Anderson, from Radio WM came in and interviewed some of our girls. On the day of the flash mob we travelled by train to New Street and got to our designated meeting point where we were given Pudsey ears to wear for the occasion. The flash mob was led by Pudsey Bear along with dancers from the Generation Strictly project. Miss Adey then joined in alongside her dance partner Pudsey; there were also four pupils from Turves Green Girls who were given the privilege to also help start the flash mob before everyone else joined in. The performance was well received by everyone watching and the atmosphere was great. All the girls were very excited about taking part in the flash mob and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Later that day the performance was published on various social media sites, including Facebook and Twitter. It was on Radio WM’s Twitter page and The Birmingham Mail’s Facebook page to name a few. We also appeared on Midlands Today on BBC 1 and on Children in Need! To take part in such a unique experience and perform to surprised commuters was such a huge achievement and we are extremely proud of all our pupils, they were amazing and represented the school fantastically. They were a credit to the school. Well done to everyone involved! Jenny Adey, Erica Reeves and Rebecca Simcox |
