Our fantastic PE department ensures that all students are given the opportunity to shine in sports and games, and our girls have been particularly successful when competing in netball and indoor and outdoor athletics.
Here is Mrs Turner's report on the 2015/16 season.
KINGS NORTON DISTRICT NETBALL LEAGUES
Turves Green Netball teams have continued to do well in the District Leagues his year. Year 9 lost only 1 game and Year 7 were undefeated. Final league positions as follows :
Year 7 – 1st in Division 2 Year 9 – 2nd in Division
Note: There was no Year 8 team in the District League this season, but four Year 8 girls were part of the Year 9 squad.
LINDEN NETBALL CLUB OPEN TOURNAMENT YEAR 8 & 9 COMBINED TEAM WEDNESDAY 10TH FEBRUARY 2016 WINNERS
The Year 8 & 9 combined team played very well in this tournament winning every game. First prize was an England Netball dress signed by the England team. It was presented by Colette Thomson, who is the current assistant coach for the England Netball team.
Shannais Johnson in Year 8 was voted the Umpires player of the tournament. She was presented with an England Netball tracksuit.
KINGS NORTON DISTRICT NETBALL TOURNAMENTS
Year 9 District Tournament Thursday 25th February 2016 - 3rd in Section
In the District Tournament once again, the Year 9 team had a difficult group to play in, with 2 of the four teams they played from Division 1 including the Division 1 winners, Kings Norton Girls. They won 2 games but then lost narrowly to the two teams who eventually made it to the final. They lost by one goal to Edgbaston High ( Runners up ) and to Kings Norton Girls ( Winners of the Tournament )
Year 7 District Tournament Wednesday 2nd March 2016
The Year 7 team had done well in their first season, finishing 1st in Division 2 the District League and were unbeaten.
At the District tournament ,they had a tough group, playing against some Division 1 teams. They didn’t play as well as they could and as a result they finished 4th in their section not progressing any further.
DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS-COLMERS SCHOOL 18th JANUARY 2016
Year 7 competed in the Level 2 District Championships on the above date. It was an EXTREMLY CLOSE competition and after a RECOUNT of points at the end, WE LOST BY ONE POINT to Colmers. Out of 8 team events on the day, we had the following results:- 1st places x 4 2nd places x 3 3rd places x 1
It was the 1st time we had not won the District Championships since the 2008-9 season- A great record in itself. Therefore for the first time in 8 years, we did not go on, to represent the District at the All Birmingham Final.
Year 8 also competed in the Level 2 District Championships on the above date. It was another EXTREMLY CLOSE competition and after ANOTHER RECOUNT at the end, WE BEAT Colmers by 1 point. Out of 8 team events on the day, we had the following results:-
1st places x 3 2nd places x 2 3rd places x 1 4th places x 2 ALL BIRMINGHAM FINAL 11th FEBRUARY 2015 DOUG ELLIS SPORTS CENTRE
The year 8 teams competed in the above event, representing the District as District Champions. There were some very good individual results. In this team competitions there are 78 secondary schools in Birmingham who compete and 12 had qualified for this final as Champions for their own Districts.
The Year 8 team finished in 4th Place in a close competition, narrowly missing a medal for the second year running (They finished in 4th Place last year at the N.I.A).

SANDWELL INDOOR LEAGUE 2015-16 Team competition results
Teams from year 7, 8, and 9 have competed in this league throughout the winter with 6 competitions in total. It is a very strong league with 9 teams in each age group. Many of the schools have club athletes who compete regularly for their clubs out of school.

With 9 schools of between 6-8 athletes, there are approx. 54-72 individuals competing in each age group. Bronze, Silver and Gold medals were awarded to the individuals who gained the most points over the 6 competitions. We won 3 of the 9 medals for the 3 age groups:

Also – Grace Gibbins and Mia Lewis were both presented with an award for outstanding effort and contribution to their teams.
Well done to all the athletes for some amazing performances this season. Also many Thanks to Miss Cosnett and Mrs Miller who have all helped coach the teams, attended competitions and given a great amount of support. The success of our teams has truly been a great team effort, from both pupils and staff.
WEST MIDLANDS ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016
There are over 200 schools in the West Midlands and it was a great achievement for four of our girls to be selected to represent the District of South Birmingham in the West Midlands Championships.

SANDWELL GIVE & GAIN ATHLETICS EXTRAVAGANZA Friday May 20th 2016
This was a team competition where ALL 6 girls in the A and B teams did ALL events, The Year 7A team finished 2nd and the Yr 7B team finished 7th out of 14 schools. There were some very good performances.

LEVEL 2 DISTRICT ATHLETICS COMPETITION QUALIFIER FOR THE BHAM GAMES YEAR 7 & YEAR 8
Both teams had athletes missing for this competition for a number of reasons. As a result both teams finished in 3rd place and did not manage to qualify for the Birmingham Games.
However, there were still some excellent performances and well done to the following girls who managed to finish in 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.

SANDWELL OUTDOOR ATHLETICS LEAGUE - YEAR 7 TUESDAY 23rd JUNE 2016 TIPTON
Following our great success in the Sandwell Indoor Athletics league at Tipton, we were invited to take part in the Outdoor Leagues for Years 7, 8 and 9 over 3 weeks at the same venue. Both Turves Green Girls and Boys combined together, as it was a mixed competition.
In the Year 7 competition there were some great performances.
Turves Green Girls’ team finished 2nd Overall out of 15 very strong teams. This is a fantastic achievement. Well done to all those who competed.
